Chapter 21
Cassandra’s POV
“It wouldn’t be a bad idea to reminisce and talk about the good old times. You could recount some embarrassing moments; I wouldn’t mind,” he proposed.
Suddenly, laughter erupted between us. His stories of the funniest and most embarrassing incidents from the past swept my mind away, momentarily washing away the darkness of our surroundings.

“Knock, knock,” I said, tapping on the door. It was around midnight, maybe even a couple of hours past. Gabriel opened the door, his surprise somewhat evident yet not entirely unexpected. Stepping aside, he allowed me to enter. I walked in and made my way to the kitchen, pouring myself a glass of water.
“Why are you here at this hour?” he asked suspiciously. I couldn’t confess that I had just returned from the prison yard. I took my time sipping the water, stalling for a moment. His gaze remained sharp.
“Can’t I come over when I miss you?” I tried to deflect.
