Chapter 21
Cassandra’s POV
“Knock, knock,” I said, tapping on the door. It was around midnight, maybe even a couple of hours past. Gabriel opened the door, his surprise somewhat evident yet not entirely unexpected. Stepping aside, he allowed me to enter. I walked in and made my way to the kitchen, pouring myself a glass of water.
“Why are you here at this hour?” he asked suspiciously. I couldn’t confess that I had just returned from the prison yard. I took my time sipping the water, stalling for a moment. His gaze remained sharp.
“Can’t I come over when I miss you?” I tried to deflect.
“I know you went to see Daniel,” he sighed, disappointed that I had attempted to lie. He had been aware all along but chose not to reveal it.
“How did you find out?” I asked.
“How could I not know? Remember, I am the Alpha. I know what I need to know.” A strange feeling crept over me; was he somehow keeping tabs on me? His arms encircled my waist, snapping me
