Cassandra’s POV

I opened my mouth to speak. “Samantha… I’m sorry for everything.” As those words left my lips, the fear within me dissipated. I was surprised by my newfound courage.

I anticipated that my words would be well received, but instead, she seemed about to erupt. She came at me like a bee, and I braced myself for the onslaught. I trusted Samantha; she wouldn’t hesitate to give me a piece of her mind.

“Don’t apologize, Cassandra. I’m going to make you pay for this,” she spat out.

Her words pierced my ears, but I had expected nothing less. Those words no longer hurt me; they spurred me to plead even more.

I wanted to see her face, but what I saw almost shattered me. Her eyes were red, unlike the last time I saw her. I realized she was beyond angry, and reconciling with her was going to be difficult.
