Chapter 23
Cassandra’s POV
I watched as Daniel helped the elderly women with fixing their leaking roofs, to helping with house chores, and cleaning up. I was glad he was finally turning a new leaf, he seemed too determined to prove the ill judgement of people wrong. I decided to sit down on a sturdy rock, my legs ached from standing and assisting him.
“Cass?!” I heard a voice call out as it shook me gently. I opened my eyes. It was Daniel. “Are you okay? I’ve never seen you sleep this deep, you really are exhausted,” he said with concern spread across his face. I hadn’t realized that I had slept for more than an hour as I sat on the rock and rested my back against a tree.
“I’m really sorry. I tagged along to help you but I ended up sleeping through.” I rolled my eyeballs, angry at myself for being so undependable and unreliable. I can’t believe I actually fell asleep. Flicking my forehead with his fingers, Daniel brought me back into reality. “Ouch! What was that for?”
