Chapter 45. A Knight's Tale

Keme took a deep breath and held it briefly before blowing it out. He had to calm himself if he had any hope of finding Lilith and what seemed to be her god-forsaken bastards. The loneliness of being away from the tribe and Chepi bothered him. 

He hoped the tribe was hunting well without him. It was hard, and now they were down a shapeshifter. The men always took a risk that they wouldn’t come home. He swore to the gods, praying his absence wouldn’t cause another death in the tribe. 

Arnou was one of the unfortunate members of the tribe to be killed. Keme grew guilty of sending Arnou alone the day the great grizzly attacked him. If Keme did not have to attend to the council affairs of the tribe, he would have had his friend’s back. To this day, guilt still overtakes Keme about his death. Arnou was the main reason for Keme becoming a wolf. He wanted no more of his people to die.
