“We don’t have a choice, sweetness. Alec walks in darkness, and until he realizes that no one could have saved Obsidian, he is our enemy. We’ve no choice but to vanquish him.”

“I can’t wrap my head around his want to end us, Raine. He had Zhang teach him how to hunt animals for blood. According to Zhang, he’s never once fed on a human since he came to Zhang for help. And he took that blood-brother oath with you during the Were Rebellion! All of that means something.”

“None of that matters now, Skye. His reason for doing it is gone, and nothing can bring her back. We have to get to Zhang. He is our only hope of defeating Alec. And once we vanquish Alec, his brother Armand will come for us. We can’t defeat either of them on our own.”

Skye tried to hold back the tears, but they escaped the corners of her eyes and slid down her cheeks. Raine caught a few with his thumbs as he cupped her cheeks and pressed forehead to hers, “It will be okay, somehow. I’m certain of it.”
