Chapter 16
“Look who went shopping. I wondered what kept you guys, was even about to call,” mom says as we enter the house with our shopping bags. She’s home early today.
“I had rehearsals after school and Tanya made us go shopping with her. She wants to look good for Ricky’s cooking contest and decided to get us new clothes too so we don’t embarrass her,” I say.
“You didn’t get any new clothes for your mom?” mom asks Tanya.
“I’ll get you one on your birthday.”
“But my birthday’s not till next year.”
“Exactly.”
Megan sniggers as I head to the kitchen and grab a bottle of Sprite from the fridge. I need a drink that is not water.
“Alright people, I’ll be upstairs taking a nap and deliberating on whether to do my homework or continue taking a nap,” I say as I head upstairs.
“Do your homework, sweetie,” mom advises.
“Sure thing, mom,” I say, even though I don’t mean it.
