Chapter 20

"What happened? Why is everyone so grumpy?" dad asks, looking at me, and I know he's expecting me to answer.

"Like Megan said, Tanya was mean to Pete, she even fat-shamed him and called him obese! Ricky overheard it and got really upset so he cancelled their date and my gig, where I was supposed to appear in his commercials. And Megan was going to be on Pete Mirk's show, but that's not happening anymore," I explain. 

"I see. I'd like to have a little chat with Tanya about it. I raised you kids better than this," dad says as he makes his way upstairs. I trust that he'll give her a good scolding, he's not as lax as mom.

"Sam, come on, Pete Mirk's show is on!" Megan announces.

"Well, I need the distraction." I shrug and occupy the space beside Megan. Pete is introducing the show and his special guests which are a bunch of kids around Megan's age. I look at Megan, she's wearing a frown; it must really hurt her to know she won't get to be one of those excited
