I had never imagined the Dreadmaw pack could truly care for their members like this—no, I had to admit it was this particular group within the pack. All along, I believed they regarded each other as nothing more than sacrificial pawns, but I was wrong.
Maevor—a reckless Lycan I’d killed back at the summit meeting—was at the center of such uproar among his packmates? Was he really that important to them? And yet this Zephyr character was threatening to kill me simply because I’d defeated Maevor in single combat.
I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. I was still learning what friendship and loyalty meant. I thought I understood camaraderie, but it vexed me that these beasts had apparently mastered it far better than I ever had.
