“You don’t get to talk to her like that,” Chase snapped while reaching his hand around to pull me behind him. “Not anymore. She’s my wife, not an object to be won or lost.”

Jesse threw his head back and let out a booming chuckle, which was promptly followed by the mocking laughter of his pack of misfits. The guests from the wedding were silent and I could tell that many wanted to leave, but they couldn’t pull themselves away from the car crash that was my life. Tears rolled down my cheeks as every ounce of the happy future I’d been dreaming of faded away. My heart was elated and broken all at once, and I couldn’t handle the magnitude of the emotions that were bombarding me. Jesse was alive and well, but my marriage was over before it had even begun.
