Chapter 40. Pooling Resources

A few months earlier...

Luc went into the dining room and Freya followed. Her face was swollen.

"I'm going to sue, Giovanna. She couldn't hurt me." Freya said, sitting down with difficulty.

"She only defended herself." Luc retorted, sipping from his glass of wine, calmly.

"She's a weapon, Luc. How can you sleep peacefully next to someone like that? You should put a leash on her. She's one of you. I noticed the yellow eyes."

"She's my wife, Freya. I can't stop her from doing what she wants in her house. I gave her no reason to want to kill me, so I don't fear her."

"You did!" Freya said and poured herself some wine too. "You stole her son. She's a poor thing, and it was the only thing she had. What you've done is far worse than what I've done, and you can be sure that she's just waiting for the best moment to get back at you."
