Chapter 123. The Fortress
As soon as Mrs. Ladie left accompanied by her daughters, Jasmine looked reproachfully at her own mother.
"Mom! You make me feel bad about my sisters. I have no part in your intrigues with Mrs. Ladie. She's never done me any harm! Quite the opposite! She never made a difference between me and her real daughters!"
Leah didn't seem to hear her daughter.
"What did she mean by that? Is her father bad for her?"
Jasmine stood up.
"I need to worry about other things, Mom. And as she said... You'll find out soon enough."
"That's true. I think she just wanted to make me apprehensive about my future. She's probably disappointed that her father is leaving her for someone younger and that she's no longer his only wife..."
"She knows Airon better than anyone, Mom. Don't kid yourself about him. One day he'll leave you too, for someone younger."
