Chapter 25. Debut
“Everyone put your guns down,” Stones’ deep voice went through the room. It took a few seconds before some of the bodyguards who caught his eyes began to lower their guns, leading to a chain reaction.
Carlos still had his raised and was even having fun with it, imagining how easily a bullet could sail out of the barrel and nestle between the Mad Hatter’s eyebrows. He couldn’t help thinking about how much he had changed. Less than two years ago, he’d have freaked out at being surrounded by over ten guns trained on him. Something in him would have had him scrambling for safety, but now it was almost as if that instinct had long died.
He felt no fear being in the middle of all the guns, and to top it off, he didn’t even blink twice about directing the gun at the man known as the Mad Hatter. To be a convincing enough threat, he played the part so well that even he wasn’t certain he wouldn’t pull the trigger.
