Chapter 24. Mad as a Hatter

There was applause and congratulations coming out from the room. The auctioneer gave her appreciation, and the MC began to bring the event to a close. He heard heels clicking in their direction and turned to see Dahlia strutting toward them, looking positively unaffected. She had found the other shoe, and you’d not be able to tell she’d been hanging off an edge just a few minutes ago.

“Well, gentlemen,” she said, her chin raised high. “It’s time to regroup.”

The next morning, Carlos was up early and asked to join a meeting in one of the buildings in the Man in Black’s estate. There, he got full details of what happened the previous night.

The bidder had been killed on the way to the gala and someone had walked in, impersonating him. Shortly before the bidding started, he excused himself from the room, his bodyguards following him, and simply disappeared. His bodyguards left the building covertly.
