Christian needed to know what was wrong with Williams, if he needed his help or if there was something he needed to help him with, he was calling someone else and it was getting heated, whatever was wrong was really serious because he was getting angry, angrier than how he was when he was making the previous call, whatever was wrong was really affecting him because he could see how worried he was becoming, he didn't want to go close to him to avoid him telling him afterwards that  he was eaves dropping, he didn't want to add to his problem, he knew how worried Williams could be if things were going the way he wanted things to go, he knew how important his job was to him, it was one thing he couldn't stop talking about because of how he had invested his time in it.
