“Wow! Did you see that? We pulled it off. You’re going out on a date with Andrew B and—”

“For $70,000. I’m amazed,” I replied honestly because it was a significant amount of money, not just as the highest bid tonight on a person but also because my best friend Yolanda single-handedly spearheaded the auction.

It was a big win for her, and I was incredibly proud. However, I couldn’t help but wonder what Andrew Blake wanted from me. Did he simply have that much money and decide to show off his ego in a battle with the other exasperating asshole?

Yolanda draped her hand on my arm, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Thank you so much for today, Saph.”

“Yeah, and even though I still think this fundraising event, which you dragged me into, could be tiring but also really fun, I’m so proud of you for tonight. You killed it.”

She smiled widely. “I’m happy for you too, babe.” We ended up hugging each other just before someo
