Chapter 31. The Miscarriage
The next morning, Gilbert and his dad went to the hospital to get them home. Jaxon was already there to help him. Last night, Gilbert’s dad was inconsolable, and after the kids had gone off to sleep in his room, he had to comfort his dad all night. He didn’t get a wink of sleep.
His mom was better and ready to be released, although she needed two weeks of complete bed rest. While Jaxon and his dad took her home, Gilbert stayed back at the hospital. He sat beside Jacqueline, stroking her head gently as she slept.
“Ashton? I hate hospitals. Can we go home, please?” she asked, slowly opening her eyes.
“They haven’t discharged you yet, baby. I’ll be with you the whole day.” Jacqueline nodded and held onto his hands. “Maddox and Melania are very upset. They didn’t want to go to school today. They wanted to come here,” said Gilbert.
“Oh, won’t I be discharged today? I thought I could go home to them,” said Jacqueline, disappointed.
