Chapter 33. The Kids Were Missing
Jacqueline felt parched in the middle of the night. She badly needed a sip of water. Sitting upright, she grabbed the bottle on the nightstand beside her and finished half the bottle in one go. Feeling refreshed, she looked at the enormous glass doors that led to the patio. There was a gap between the curtains and for a moment, she felt the hair on her body rise.
Was there a dark shadow of a man with something glistening in his hand, like a weapon? She wasn’t sure. Focusing properly, she froze with horror seeing that there indeed was a man outside, his silhouette distinct from the garden lighting. He was trying to peep inside, but the moment he saw her; he dashed away. Jacqueline clearly saw a pistol in his hand as he sped away toward the boundary wall.
“Ashton, wake up. I saw a man. Ashton,” she said in a panic, shaking a sleepy Ashton beside her.
“What man?” asked Gilbert sleepily.
“I saw a man with a gun just outside our room,” said Jacqueline in a hoarse
