Chapter 30. The Accident
Everything happened in the blink of an eye, and Jacqueline felt dazed. Gilbert’s mom fell on top of her and she couldn’t get up since she took the brunt of the fall. Unbearable pain shot through her body, making her go numb as she closed her eyes. She heard people yelling, children and women shrieking with horror. It was like a nightmare which they show in movies. She couldn’t move a muscle, as the weight of Gilbert’s mom upon her was too much to bear. A panicked John came hurrying towards them and so did the others passing by.
“Why did you have to cross the road? I would have come over to pick you up, ma’am,” said John, trying to help them up.
“I can’t move a single muscle, John. There’s excruciating pain in my back,” said Gilbert’s mom, groaning with pain.
“We might have to take you to the hospital, ma’am,” said John as he and a few others gently tried to help Jacqueline get up, but she had excruciating pain in her chest and lower abdomen and co
