Chapter 4. The Deed
Gilbert entered his house and found everyone engaged in a discussion. Tired, he sat down beside his mother, Amy Prescott, when his nine-year-old son, Maddox, handed him a notice from his school.
“What’s this?” asked Gilbert, going through the circular requesting the presence of both parents at the Open House next week.
“I’ll attend it, don’t worry,” said Gilbert, but Maddox scowled and so did his twin, Melania.
“No, you can’t possibly go alone to our Open House, Dad. It’s clearly stated that both parents should accompany their wards,” pointed out a distraught Maddox.
“I stand by him, Dad. Everyone would turn up with both their parents. Then they would make fun of us,” supported Melania. The year-end Open House at their school was coming up in a week’s time and they would need to pick up their term-end report cards and meet the various teachers who had given them appointments. It seemed their dad didn’t realize the importance of it all.
