Vera stood up and walked closer to Monica, who was busy accusing her in front of Malone, claiming she was nothing more than a husband snatcher and Jack’s mistress.

"Monica, what news are you talking about?" Vera asked, her curiosity tinged with anxiety.

"Oh, I guess you didn’t get a chance to catch the news before barging in here. Let me show you… here!" Monica said, tapping rapidly on her phone before handing it to Vera.

Vera stared at the screen, stunned. Her heart dropped. On the phone were nude pictures, her and Jack, exposed. Her mind raced back to the day in Jack’s flower garden, the bright and sunny afternoon where they had made love with abandon. Jack had been focused solely on her, caring more about her pleasure than his own. She had fallen for him all over again that day.

Tears welled up, blurring her vision. She looked up at Monica, who snatched the phone back without an ounce of remorse.
