"Too bad for you that this guard dog has known her longer," I told him. "This isn't like when I wasn't around to protect her from you."

In a word, I detested him.
He deeply regretted what he had done.
If he had confronted her in his current state, she would have forgiven him immediately.

"Oh, you're here?" Crystal asked as she and Sarah walked out of the doctor's office wearing scrubs.
“I wanted to check up on you," I said.
Sneering at me, Sarah said, "I'll go ahead."
