Chapter 15. The Hockey God’s Kiss
Lila’s POV
The car shuddered then sputtered. With wide eyes
My eyes grew wide as I clutched the seat’s edge and my heart began to race like I had run a thousand miles.
“What now?” I asked, looking at the side mirror, expecting a wolf to jump out at us.
Ryder pinched the bridge of his nose before parking the car at a peaceful corner of the road.
The quiet was heavy and thick against me.
Ryder jumped out so fast that I didn’t see him and he popped the hood. I was shivering from the cold air as I watched from the driver’s seat. His fingers fumbling with wires .
“It’s probably just the battery.” he muttered. “Give me a minute.”
I wanted to believe him but my thoughts kept returning to the forest. To the howls. To the things I felt were encroaching on me but that I didn’t understand. With a tighter grip on the steering wheel I muttered
“What if its not just the battery? What happens if something is out there?”
