Chapter 30. If You Had Kissed Me

Lila’s POV

Tuesday.

Not Monday, I had missed school because mom had insisted that I rest a little. Or she should have said: ‘Stay home so you don’t meet Ryder again.’

I was surprised to find myself smiling when I woke up. I felt so long and suddenly happy for the first time in what seemed like an eternity.

I had no weight in my chest and

It didn’t feel like my bones had to fight gravity to stay alive.

I had woken up without any stupid alarms and like a

cat, I stretched beneath my sheets as the sun streamed in through the window. I felt whole in some way and this wasn’t some kind of happy dream that would end when I woke up, this was real.

Everything had changed by the time I arrived at school, not outside though but the smell of exhaust and poor choices was still present in the parking lot. And the school chat was exploding inside. Like blowing up.

Someone had made a post on the school’s group and it read:
