Chapter 56. Something I Never Knew
Lila’s POV
Ryder dropped me off. The sun was doing that melty, orange-streaky thing behind the trees. And his hand was still on mine, even when I’m halfway out of the car. And for a second, just one second, I’m like—don’t let go. I wanted him to still hold my hand, to feel its warmth on mine.
“Good night, Lila. I’ll text you later.” He said not even giving me a second glance.
His voice was all low and sad,.like something was off.
“You better.” I laughed.
God, did I say that? I did. That meant that I wasn’t getting sick or sad or depressed like days before.
And then he gave me that smile. Not a full one. The half-smile. The one that basically melts my brain and makes my knees forget how to knee. Then he’s gone.
I didn’t go inside. Not right away. I just stood there on the porch for a minute. Breathing. Just... breathing and watching the tail lights.
