Chapter 58. But You Said You Loved Me
Lila’s POV
The first sign should’ve been the nerves. Or, like, the lack of them. But, when am I not a walking ball of anxiety? But there I was, getting out of the car at Kisring freaking Hall, and then nothing. I felt okay.
Good, even. Which is so not me. The whole place was insane, just dripping with white lights and gold, and a line of cars so fancy I was half-expecting a red carpet. Leah was practically vibrating next to me. “You ready to break some necks?” she chirped, and I actually laughed. A real laugh.
I felt so alive and at the same time a feeling of nervousness came over me as we walked through some archways, my heels making soft noises on the floor.
The only time I had seen Kisring Hall was in the school magazine and that was all.
The whole place smelled like money. Just like those candles that cost more than a week of our groceries. For the first time in forever, I didn’t feel tired. I didn’t feel sick. I just felt here. Alive.
