Lila’s POV
Walking through the halls felt so off.
Like, not in a someone-died-here way, but just different. Off-kilter and too bright and too loud.
But maybe that was just me and Blackridge was still the same. Same whispers and eyes following around like they wanted to see your soul.
That’s Blackridge for you—nothing stays secret. Rumors here grow legs, teeth, claws. They run wild. Yeah, of course they all know now that I and Ryder were worlds apart now.
“Hey, Lila.”
I turned and smiled, it was some girl, one of those faces you aren’t friends with but you had recognized them anywhere. She turned to her friend, whispered something into her ears and she too turned to look at me and they smiled knowingly at each other.
I scoffed.
Whatever.
I didn’t glare or even roll my eyes. Didn’t do anything except keep walking like my bones weren’t made of glass right now.
