He had been too late.

Fuck! He never should have left her alone for so long.

Keith’s eyes roamed Cassandra’s unmoving body on the floor, terrified at the thought of her dying.

“Tell me you didn’t kill her,” His voice came out dark and calm. A contrast to the turmoil he felt inside.

He had been all over the place in the underworld, trying to make preparations to cure Cassie, when he had an ominous feeling.

A feeling he couldn’t quite explain. He tried figuring out why he felt ill at ease and could only think of one reason.

Cassandra.

Fear. He had felt that running through his veins and knew he had to save her. And so he ran. Rushed down in the snap of a finger, not caring how he looked, not caring about his true form, not caring about anything else but saving Cassandra.

What he hadn’t expected was seeing Melete trying to choke the life out of his human.

“I intended to,” she said unapologetically, her hair and dress billowing in t
