Chapter 71
When Cassandra opened her eyes, the skies above her were dark and littered with a lot of stars. She could not recall seeing stars outside for a long time. Growing up in New York had its perks and all, but one was always in a rush and always too busy to look up at the stars. It was quite sad, which was exactly why she was surprised to see the stars. There was a ringing in her ears somewhere. It seemed so far away.
She blinked rapidly, trying to clear the fluid that pooled in the lower part of her eyelids. The water slid down the corner of her eyes, and she frowned.
Was she crying?
Why on earth was she crying?
She tried to raise her hands to touch her face. But her body felt frozen. Alarm pulsed through her. What the hell was going on? Why was she outside? She had to be outside, right? If she could see the stars and all, then she was definitely outside. Why was she lying on the ground?
How had she gotten outside?
