Chapter 143. Shattered Bond

Red was led by Anneth to a park in the heart of After Domini, some distance from their training grounds. During the whole walk, Red felt uneasy.

First, because Fiona seemed upset, even though she had allowed Red to go. Second, because Red was worried that something might have happened to Aamon, despite Anneth's assurances that Aamon was fine.

When they arrived, Red couldn't see Aamon anywhere. Anneth walked into a secluded area of the park with thick, silent trees, and then Aamon came into view, leaning against a branch.

"Aamon," Red whispered softly.

Aamon jumped down, and Anneth gave a short nod before quickly leaving them alone. Red's body tensed as she faced Aamon. When she moved to embrace him, Aamon stepped back, keeping his distance.

"Aamon? What's wrong?" Red asked. "Are you angry with me because Ursula threw you into the portal?"

That was the only thing Red could think of to explain why Aamon had been avoiding her since the incident on Io
