Chapter 164. 30th Century

The downtown area covered 10 blocks and consisted of rows of nearly identical 18- and 20-story buildings. Beyond that was the residential area, where unsponsored participants lived in cramped high-rise rooms. 

The arena area was to the north, and the service district, including the hospital, was to the south. Access to the city center was limited to two main routes: one from the north and one from the south.

In the 30th Century, everything was rigid and controlled. Unlike the more open After Domini, this futuristic environment felt suffocating and threatening.

Red, Aamon, and Ursula took the northern route to downtown until they caught sight of the Arena District, which housed The Cirque, The Cage, and The Guild. Without realizing it, Red stopped when she noticed people entering The Cage.
