Chapter 68. The Tunnels

The ants surrounded Lucas, Carol, Luke, and the other two deformities. They tried to defend their position by attacking any ants that came near. Minute by minute, like hours. As death approached.

They tried their best to maintain their position, but they all had energy limits. Just as they were about to give up, Luke heard the sound of a helicopter approaching. From above, he saw figures darting down from the direction of the helicopter.

As Elijah descended among the surrounded Deformities, he opened his palms.

"Get down!" 

They all bowed and covered their heads. The huge flames spewing from Elijah's hands burned all the ants that came to besiege them. The ants that came stopped suddenly, their antennae stiffening. Then they ran back as fast as they could. 

As the ants retreated, Isaac and the others ran over. All around them were the charred carcasses of the ants.
