Chapter 70. Head to the Tunnel

Bernice came out of the tent, followed by Carol, and hobbled over to Elijah, who was preparing to head for the tunnel with his small group. Edgard, Drew, Theresa, Bone, joined the mission that could be called the second suicide mission after Fall City. 

"Are you out of your mind?" Bernice shouted, her eyes glazed over. "Elijah, do you enjoy playing with death? How could you do this to me?"

Carol looked at Elijah, feeling guilty because she was the one who told Bernice about Elijah going into the tunnel. It was clear that Bernice's condition did not allow her to join the war, and that made the girl very upset.

"Bern, calm down. I'll make sure we all get back," Elijah said.

"No, I can't afford to lose you again and again."

From another tent, Isaac and Josh emerged, carrying small backpacks, and approached the small group that had gathered and grown larger with Bernice's screams.

"Where are you going?" snapped Bernice.
