How was I going to say this? How was I supposed to tell my father something like this? I knew that the longer I waited, the harder it would be for me to just say it.

So I went for it; straight for it. “Dad, I’m a vampire.” I watched his face, trying to decipher the expression on his face. 

But nothing changed. He stared at me as if I had not said anything; almost as if he was waiting for me to say the actual thing that I had told him that I wanted to tell him.

“Oh, wait, you’re being serious?” He asked when he noticed that I was not saying anything else and did not burst out in laughter. “Lisa, what’s that supposed to even mean?” He scoffed faintly. 

“I’m a vampire, Dad. I'm being serious right now. There are vampires all over Seattle being serious right now. There are vampires all over Seattle and I happen to be one of them.”
