The world tilted.

She was gone.
I didn’t remember blinking.
I didn’t remember breathing.
I didn’t remember anything except the hollow, brutal echo of her words.
I can’t be with you.
By the time my brain caught up, my legs finally moved… too late. She was already halfway down the street, swallowed by lights, people, traffic… life.
A life without me.
“Dahlia!”
My voice cracked so violently strangers paused, looking at me like I was losing my mind.
Maybe I was.
I tore down the pavement after her, scanning every direction, every figure, every shadow.
Nothing.
She was gone.
Slipped through my fingers like she always did… Only this time, I knew she wasn’t coming back.
I ran.
To my car, and then to her hostel.
Straight to the building, straight up the stairs, barely thinking, barely breathing.
