Diego was still talking, pacing on his end of the call… I could practically hear his heavy footsteps echoing through the line.

“Seb, listen to me. You cannot give up on the investigation. Not because Dahlia left. Not because she blocked you. Not because your heart is in shambles and your brain cells are on sick leave…”

I didn’t answer. Instead, I was scrolling on my tablet… anything to keep myself busy from listening to Diego’s rants about my heartbreak and how my brain isn’t functioning well.

He’s been going on for a while, and sincerely I want him to stop. Because I’m emotionally drained.

I didn’t tell him to stop, though. That would be selfish of me. He’s put much more effort into this than just for me to tell him to stop. He is a detective after all. Letting an unsolved case go without having answers might be a big deal to him.
