“You?” I blinked, still halfway between disappointment and confusion.
Kenna turned around, a cookie already in her mouth. “Good morning to you too, Sleeping Beauty.”
I exhaled, trying to hide my embarrassment. “I thought… never mind. What are you doing here so early?”
“Couldn’t sleep,” she said, shrugging. “So, I raided the kitchen. Want some?” She slid the plate toward me with a mischievous grin.
“Cookies for breakfast?” I teased, sitting beside her.
“Technically, it’s brunch. Besides, chocolate chips cure everything.”
She wasn’t wrong. I took one, biting into it as she launched into some ridiculous story about how she once got locked inside a hotel room with a malfunctioning smart door that kept mistaking her for an intruder.
By the time she got to the part where the security guard burst in and screamed louder than she did, I was laughing so hard tears pricked my eyes.
