“Do you still love him?”

The question hit me like a physical blow, stealing my breath. My heart skipped a beat, then began to pound against my ribs. Do I still love Caspian? Yes. The real question was: could I ever stop loving him? The thought scared me, could I really love my life loving someone I could never have?

She saw the answer written all over my face and her expression softened. “Then why did you guys break up?” she pressed, her voice gentle, but her eyes filled with concern.

“It’s… complicated,” I whispered, the words barely audible. No matter how much I wanted to tell her everything, I just couldn’t. She wouldn’t understand.

“Complicated how?” she pressed, her tone more curious than judgmental.

“There are too many people that don’t want us together.” I hesitated, careful not to reveal too much. “It’s just…not that simple.”

“But you still love him, and clearly he wants you back,” she said, waving to all the fl
