Chapter 6

Julie just stared at Officer Hale for a few seconds. Then she nodded her assent, a nearly imperceptive movement, but Officer Hale took that as an invitation to sit down beside her on the living room couch.

“Do you want me to turn on the TV?” Officer Hale asked Julie. Julie could see that Officer Hale was desperate to break the awkward silence, so she shrugged her shoulders and said, “Sure.”

“What do you like to watch?”

“It doesn’t matter. You can pick.” Julie mumbled.

“Okay, let’s go with Freeform.” She flipped to the right channel and sat back against her seat. “Looks like there’s a movie on. Is this Harry Potter?”

“Yeah, looks like it,” Julie said. “This is fine. It’s the second movie. I’ve seen them all a million times, but they’re really good.” She said without any enthusiasm. Officer Hale put the remote controller down on an end
