(Ava’s POV)
As I ran out of his office, my tears threatened to blind me.
Ordinarily I'd have stayed and stood my ground, but this time it was somehow so different from what I'm used to.
I've never felt so threatened in my life. Even when Lily and I had a run in with the neighborhood gang one night when we were out late, I wasn't as intimidated as I was just now.
My buried feelings of inferiority are suddenly climbing out of the hole in my brain where I thought I'd shut closed. Feelings I thought I was done with forever, feelings I thought I'd grown out of and moved past. Feelings of never being good enough, no matter what you do.
I clutch at my chest and try to take deep soothing breaths. I'd half expected him to run after me, but a bigger part of me knew that Dylan would never lose his composure in front of a guest if he could help it, even if that guest was an ex lover.
Besides, that would give away the status
