Chapter 38
A wave of dizziness had her swaying the moment she was upright and almost sent her falling back to the mattress. Livia sucked in a deep breath and shook her head, blinking hard until the blackness crowding in on the edges of her vision receded slightly.
As quietly as possible, she crept to the open door and pressed her shoulder to the jam. A quick peek showed a wide, thankfully empty, hallway. Hearing what sounded like the faint clatter of pans coming from the right, she turned in that direction.
As she slowly tiptoed along, she catalogued what she could of the place, looking for an escape, even as she got closer to the source of the noise.
Beautiful hardwood floors polished to a high shine, ceilings at least fourteen feet high, and the glimpse she could see at the end of the hall of an open space told her she was likely in some kind of retrofitted warehouse loft.
