After Emiliana mentioned that Katherine didn't know how to ride a horse, it took us about ten minutes to react. Not because it was surprising that she lacked that skill, but because it was very strange for a twenty-seven-year-old woman to put herself in such a situation willingly. But Kat had always been very unpredictable; you never knew for sure what her next move would be, and even if you did, you couldn't be sure she wouldn't change it at the last minute. That was just her.

The four of us walked out the back door of the estate. We didn't really know what we would do when we found her. Prohibiting her from doing the activity sounded really stupid, but only if Kat had the even stupider idea of trying to ride without anyone assisting her.
