They stared at each other, looking as annoyed as the other. 

She wondered what she could have done to deserve this

It was irrational, and utterly ungrateful, but she suddenly felt very angry with him.

 He claimed to govern her life and that of her child. 

Eden clenched her fists. Deep down, he knew it was Ivan she wanted to hit, not him. 

To slap the one who offered to save her and her child from decay would have been pure folly. 

Not to mention that she had to fight, at the same time, against a very different temptation: that of throwing herself against his broad chest and crying hot tears…

“Yes, I'm probably a little disturbed,” she replied, trying to speak in a soft voice.
