Chapter 47
Fear clenched my heart like a vice as Lucas pulled me away from the familiarity and safety of the camp. The weight of the unknown bore down on me, overwhelming my senses. I could hear the distant sounds of chaos and with each step, my fear intensified. I stumbled and faltered because my legs were trembling in fear. As a result, I struggled to keep up with Lucas but through it all, he remained close to me.
“Why is the territory under attack?” I asked him but he probably never heard me.
“Shhhh. Just focus,” he said and as we navigated through the darkness, I wondered why I didn’t smell the stench coming out of his body.
Normally, his body odor would repel me but at the moment, my fear overshadowed my sense of smell. I clung to him and allowed him to hold me tightly as we moved stealthily in the dark.
