Chapter 36. Caught in the Crossfire

Leila’s POV

I couldn’t take my eyes off Dominic’s back, and, as I couldn’t do anything to stop him, retreated out my bedroom door. He had left me in a mess of emotion. His words this time had stung much harder than the look, and that was saying something. I just did not get why Dominic was so angry. More accurately, why he was so disturbed I would spend time with Luca. My head was confused, and I needed to clear it.

I fell onto the edge of my bed, his anger a palpable weight over my head. Why should it matter, in the least? We weren’t anything. I was just his maid, nothing more. Yet the way he had looked at me, the way he spoke to me was different from every other maid here.

I shook my head to clear the cobwebs. I could not think this way. It was dangerous, insane. Dominic was my boss and Luca. Luca was another thing. He is his younger brother, I could not afford to get mixed up with either of them.
