Chapter 41. The Invisible Enemy
Leila’s POV
This would be my war; this silence, it seemed. The growing unease hung in one corner of the house. Strange things randomly happened; my stuff suddenly disappeared; and I frequent threat notes, and funny noises during the night. What could be going on? It’s as though the mansion is turning against me, quite literally.
Pondering over the note, which I had found last night, preyed on my mind that morning, as I made my way along the corridors.
Leave the mansion immediately, if you value your life.
It was written on the paper. I had told nobody, associated with none, lest some develop fears, but whatever was at large, I would have to find out.
It was only a while after that this thought occurred to me: how perhaps, a walk outside the garden, would pacify my thoughts.
That was it: a swaying wind that was soothing my thoughts a bit, but the scary feeling of watchfulness had the upper hand in my head. Bit by bit, I began walking
