Chapter 79. A New Threat

Dominic’s POV

“Leila, it’s me, Dominic. You’re safe now.”

Her eyes flickered open and for a moment they were unfocused, clouded by confusion and terror. I leaned forward taking her hand gently in mine, willing her to focus on me, to know she was safe.

“Dominic…” the word came out hoarse, barely heard, “What… what happened?”

I swallowed hard and set a lid on my emotions. “You’re in the hospital. You were attacked, but you’re going to be okay.”

Her brow furrowed and I watched as it all came rushing back to her. Her eyes went wide and she jerked her hand from mine, struggling to sit up despite the pain which twisted her features.

“N-No, no!” she managed to stammer out into rising high-pitched hysteria. “They… they were there. They—”

“Shh, Leila, listen,” I said firmly to her hands reaching for her shoulders and trying to hold them as softly as possible. “You’re okay. Nothing is gonna happen to you. I won’t let it.”
