Chapter 22. My Chance

Adeline’s POV

“Starting here? How? I don’t understand,” I said, looking at Rosa, I was confused. I didn’t really understand what she meant.

“My father wants to open a branch here!” she squealed, barely able to contain herself and the whole excitement.

“Wow!” I breathed, finally letting out a genuine smile. “This is... this is great news, Rosa.”

“I thought you’d work over there when you were done with school,” I added, still a little surprised.

“Well...” She shrugged, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I had it in mind, but this is home. I talked to my father and told him I wanted to come back home after school.”

“And he accepted?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

I knew her father well enough to understand he wasn’t the kind of man who easily changed his mind.

He had been the one who insisted she study abroad, pushing her toward medicine with an iron will.

Rosa never had a choice but to leave with him years back.<
