Climbing the stairs to the stage, I felt unsettled.

Freya must have sensed my unease of this situation, she reached out and grabbed my hand, squeezing me lightly. Turning around, Freya gave me a half smile, which always usually made me feel relaxed. But this was different. I couldn’t shake off the feeling this all wasn’t what it seemed.

‘You can feel it too?’ Silver asked in my mind ‘Something isn’t right.’

‘No,’ I replied with a grunt. ‘It seems a bit too good to be true right now. Nathan being overly friendly, all these people here to celebrate us. I’m not buying it.’

‘Don’t let your guard down, Rufus,’ Silver said ‘I’ll be here if you need me, I’m watching every second now. Don’t panic.’

‘I’m afraid for Freya,’ I said to my wolf ‘What if they…’

“Welcome you beautiful couple!” Nathan said with a wide grin. He began to pour two drinks into the flutes by his side. Filling then with the same champagne the guests had been gi
