Zac yawned loudly, knocking on the door. He had hoped to see Simone after taking a forced break from guarding the vault for the night. He left her two days ago without any prior information on where he went. To make matters worse, he had heard of his mother’s spiteful approach of Simone.

His head hurt from having to worry about so many things. He had recently found out that Nia loving another person was all a trick to make him run after her. Now she was back calling him an irresponsible husband.

He knocked persistently again when no response came. “Simone,” he called out in a hushed tone.

The door opened to show a sleepy-eyed Simone. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her palm to be sure it was Zac and she wasn’t just hallucinating. Receiving Becca’s letter had put her on edge, and she had become more desperate to get her hands on the stone.
