Chapter 14

Lucien felt confused as he paced the packed kitchen. He had never felt happier since he found his mate, but something was gnawing at him, something that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He had seen someone at the banquet, someone he was sure he recognized, but their face had been different. It was as if they had somehow changed in the blink of an eye.

As he walked, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. He had seen that person before. He was sure of it. But who was she? And why did they look so different? He had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as if he had missed something important.

The words of his beta echoed through his mind, and he knew that they contained some truth to them. His best friend wouldn't bring up something so sensitive if he didn't suspect something, too.

Lucien tried to push the thoughts out of his mind and focus on the paper he was reading. He could remember that night well, the feel of his mate
